The Saga of Piyamaradu
Military Heritage, October 2001

Piyamaradu was a Late Bronze Age Anatolian warlord who rebelled against the mighty Hittite empire. Over the course of several conflict-filled decades, this man who would be king essentially realized his goal, carving out his own realm in the western territories of Hatti.

I wrote this article based largely on my own interpretation of a missive known as the "Tawagalawa Letter," written by the Great King of Hatti to the ruler of the Mycenenean Greeks to protest the latter's support for Piyamaradu. New information on the subject, which has come to light since I wrote the article, will be incorporated into both the nonfiction treatment I'm contemplating and the novel I'm currently writing.
