Brutal Battle for Betio
(WWII History Quarterly, Vol 1, No. 3, Spring 2010)

Larry Wade, a nineteen-year-old Higgins boat coxswain, took part in frequent and prolonged combat in the battle for Betio Island in the Tarawa Atoll, 20-23 November 1943. To tell his story, I spent many hours interviewing Larry and researching the campaign, then wrote the text based on my edits of the audio recordings and other materials.
